Es gibt noch Gründe für Synology?

Hat eigentlich irgendjemand Erkenntnisse, wie die Synology HDDs sich im Vergleich zu WD Red Plus schlagen, insbesondere was die Geräuschentwicklung/Wohnzimmertauglichkeit angeht?

In der Anleitung zum FidoNet, mancher erinnert sich, stand damals sinngemäß: "Formulieren Sie ein Flame ausdrucksstark und in epischer Breite. Sparen Sie nicht mit entlastenden Kraftausdrücken. Aber das Wichtigste ist, löschen Sie den Flame nach Fertigstellung". Daran musste ich mich eben bei meinem eigenen Post erinnern und habe den Rat befolgt.

Aber als Alternative sehe ich da derzeit nur QNAP. Synology hat 25 Jahre, QNAP 21 Jahre Erfahrung. UGREEN 1 Jahr.

Da dürfte auf jeden Fall etwas dran sein.
Aber, mittlerweile verlassen auch schon einige QNAP und wechseln auf UGREEN.
Wobei der Grund fast immer zum Großteil die Hardware ist.
Wer von Synology verwöhnt ist, wird sich damit aufgrund der vorhandenen / nicht vorhandenen Software schon etwas schwer tun.

Ich finde Synology Photos, das ist aus der Box mit 5 Handy/Usern wirklich brauchbar. Wenn UGreen da was vergleichbares hat, würde ich auch von 918+ auf eine 2 oder 4 Bay wechseln.

Mit persönlich gefällt Synology Photos nicht wirklich und ich setze auf Immich. Und das läuft halt überall wo Docker drauf läuft

Gibt auch noch Terramaster als Alternative. Deren eigene Software TOS ist zwar auch "gewöhnungsbedürftig", aber die Hardware ist zeitgemäß und mit dem einfach zu installierenden Truenas läuft das bei mir Super

Synology's Plus series HDDs are usually cheaper than the same model Toshiba or Seagate drives. It's only Synology's NVMe drives that are overpriced, but they are high quality enterprise grade NVMe drives.

For users, this means that starting with the Plus series models released in 2025, only Synology's own hard drives and third-party hard drives certified according to Synology's specifications will be compatible and offer the full range of functions and support.

This makes it sound like certified 3rd party NVMe drives will finally, officially, be allowed to be used for NVMe volumes.

The use of compatible and unlisted hard drives will be subject to certain restrictions in the future, such as pool creation and support for issues and failures caused by the use of incompatible storage media. Kann Immich 360° Photos und Videos von 360° Kameras, z.B. Insta360? Synology Photos ist schon echt ein toller Allrounder.

Das Synology in eine kritische richtig geht, war mir klar.
Aber das man nun sowas durchziehen möchte, gefällt mir gar nicht...

Gleich Mal die pat für meine vorhandenen Modelle sichern, falls die auf die Idee kommen, das doch noch für ältere Modelle auszurollen...

That would mean Synology would need to release a DSM update every time they needed to add new supported drives or new drive firmware versions.

Synology prefers to make minor changes easy for themselves, which is why storage manager changed to being a package so that Synology can update it in between DSM updates.
