DSM 7.3 DSM 7.3 wieder ohne HDD Beschränkungen

Mit dem heutigen Release von DSM 7.3 hebt Synology die Beschränkungen für HDD in den 2025er Modellen wieder auf.

Da ich meine Syno schon sehr lange nicht mehr neu aufgesetzt habe:

Wie sieht es denn bei einem Neugerät aus? Wird das Update bei einer Neueinrichtung eingespielt oder erkennt er erstmal die "falschen" HDD nicht?

Nachtrag: Die Beschränkungen für M2 bleiben.

Du musst damit rechnen, dass zur Erstinstallation nur Synology-HDDs akzeptiert werden und dass du noch DSM 7.2 bekommst.

DSM 7.3 wird in Wellen ausgerollt und daher kann es passieren, dass einem das noch nicht angeboten wird.

6. Introduced in DSM 7.2.2 and continued in DSM 7.3, media file processing for HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264), and VC-1 codecs is now handled by end devices to improve system efficiency. These codecs are widely supported on end devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs. If the end device does not support the required codecs, the use of media files may be limited. Refer to this article for workarounds.In addition, please note the following exceptions:

What's New​

1. Added an option to postpone important DSM auto-updates for up to 28 days after the first notification.
2. Added support for Synology Tiering and Synology Tiering Vault.
3. Added native exFAT support for external devices, allowing seamless access without additional packages. The exFAT Access package has been discontinued.
4. Added support for backing up and restoring the "Verify server certificate" setting in LDAP directory service. Restoring this setting requires both the export and import systems to run DSM 7.3 or above.
5. Added support for selecting organizational units (OUs) to synchronize when joining a domain. In this version, if you need to modify the OU synchronization list after joining the domain, you must leave and rejoin the domain.

7. Added support for sending OTP emergency recovery codes by email if users cannot receive their OTP during 2-factor authentication for OS login.

1. Fixed an issue where DSM configuration backups or Hyper Backup could fail while Shared Folder Sync tasks were running.
2. Fixed an issue where residual snapshots from previous backup tasks might cause entire system backups in Active Backup for Business or Hyper Backup to fail.
3. Fixed an issue where Snapshot Replication tasks might fail due to unexpected errors.
4. Fixed a security vulnerability regarding curl (CVE-2023-38545).
5. Fixed a security vulnerability regarding AppleTalk (CVE-2023-51781).
6. Fixed a security vulnerability regarding krb5 (CVE-2024-37371).
7. Fixed a security vulnerability regarding PostgreSQL (CVE-2025-1094).

Spannend, dass es das letzte DSM für die x18 Serie ist. Also kein DSM 8 für diese. Hätte gedacht, dass bei der x16 Serie Schluss ist und die x18 das noch bekommt.

Kommt wie immer auf die Willkür der Synology-Server an. Auf dem Handy gehts auch noch nicht, PC schon.

Bei folgenden Geräten wird mir im Download-Zentrum zwar noch kein DSM 7.3 angeboten, aber der Versionshinweis führt zu den Releasenotes für DSM 7.3: DS218j u. DS418.

Tatsache, das geht. Wer ahnt denn schon, dass man bei einer URL ohne Parameter für die Version nicht gleich zur aktuellen Version kommt. Für die DS1819+ ist da inzwischen auch DSM7.3 samt Releasenotes verfügbar.

Schade das bedeutet 7.3 ist schon das EoL für meine 218j.
Aber gut, hängt eh nicht am Internet sondern nur noch im lokalen Netz.

Auch wenn Synology nun zurück rudert:
Der Ruf ist hin.
Ich werde die 218j nach und nach mit einem Eigenbau ersetzen.
So hab ich gemütlich Zeit für den Übergang und die Lernkurve.

Ne neue Syno kommt mir nicht mehr her, denn das zurückrudern hat nichts mit "die Kunden haben Recht das war ein Fehler" sondern mit "Oh nein unsere Verkäufe stagnieren und Gewinne fallen aus" zu tun.

Wer garantiert mir, dass Synology in einem halben Jahr nicht den nächsten Mist verzapft?
Gebrochenes Vertrauen repariert man in der Kundschaft nicht so schnell.
