DSM 7.1 Umstieg von EXT4 auf BTRFS

Hallo zusammen,

ich bin schon seit Tagen am Überlegen, wie ich am Besten von EXT4 auf BTRFS umstelle.
Warum will ich mir das überhaupt antun? Ich würde gerne Home Assistent auf der Synology laufen lassen und da wird wohl aus irgendwelchen Gründen das gefordert.

Nun ja, hier mal mein Setup.
Synology RS1221+
8 Platten verbaut: 4x 8TB, 1x 10TB, 2x 16TB und 1x 18TB
Als SHR mit einer Platte Ausfallsicherung im Verbund = 67,3TB
Belegt aktuell mit 35,6TB.

Die zentrale Frage, wie stelle ich das am geschicktesten an.
Gestern habe ich kurzerhand eine D220j gekauft. Und eine Seagate Platte mit 24TB.

Mein Plan ist. Ich schnapp mir eine 16TB aus der RS1221 und lass die Synology dies reparieren.
Dann pack ich die 24TB und 16TB in die DS220j und mach ein Hyperbackup.
Danach mach ich die RS1221 platt und setze diese als BTRFS wieder neu ab und zieh die Daten aus dem Backup auf der DS220j.

Irgendwie kommt mir das alles etwas umständlich vor. Was meint ihr?
Gibt es einen schlaueren Plan?

Was willst du reparieren, wenn eine HDD fehlt?
Was läuft denn auf der RS: VMs, Docker, etc., ich frage wegen der Sicherung, weil nicht alles kann mit HB gesichert werden.
Hast du schon die "Neue" größere Systempartition?

Ich meinte damit, dass ich einfach eine Platte aus der RS1221 entferne. Dann habe ich gedacht, man lässt das System ackern und es sichert sich selber wieder auf den verbleibenden 7 Platten. War das ein Trugschluss?
Docker habe ich nichts mehr, und VM auch noch nicht.
Die neue Systempartition würde ich ja gerne mit einer Platte aus der RS1221 realisieren. Geht das überhaupt.
Denn die aktuelle Partition läuft zwar auf 67TB aber besteht nur aus rd. 36TB Daten. Da müsste doch ein Backupsystem mit rd. 40TB locker reichen?
 
Ja, es dann degraded, kann aber benutzt werden. Ich überlege mir mir was für den Umzug. Zur Sicherheit würde ich mal alle SMART Werte hier posten, keinen Test machen, siehe Link in meiner Signatur.

Ich habe eben mal geschaut. Alle Platten sind in einem guten Zustand und fehlerfrei und haben zwischen 6.000h und 65.000h. Die Temperatur liegt zwischen 40-44° C. Reicht dir diese Information, oder soll ich von allen Platten einen Screenshot hier reinhalten.
 
Was bedeutet fehlerfrei, hast du die SMART-Werte im Detail analysiert? Die Anzeige vom DSM kannst du "vergessen"!!! Hatten wir erst letzte Woche, HDD mit uncorrectable sectors -> DSM sagt alles im grünen Bereich.

Hallo ctrlaltdelete,
danke für deinen Hinweis mit dem Code einfügen. Tatsächlich hatte ich das versucht gehabt, bin aber an der 10.000 Zeichen Hürde gestolpert.
Sicherlich hätte ich es jetzt in mehrere Post aufteilen können, ich hoffe nun aber, dass eine beigefügte Datei auch seinen Zweck erfüllt.
Sollten nun die Platten alle in einem akzeptablen Zustand sein, bin ich dann mit meiner Überlegung nun Richtig unterwegs, oder gibt es bessere und einfachere Ansätze, um dieses Vorhaben zu realisieren.

Fast perfekt, da die Seagate Werte umgerechnet werden müssen, wäre es dieser befehl gewesen oder du prüfst es manuell?

Danke, das habe ich gemacht. Ergebnis: True Error Rate bei allen bei 0%. Normalized SMART Value bei allen zwischen 80-82.
 
8 Platten verbaut: 4x 8TB, 1x 10TB, 2x 16TB und 1x 18TB
Als SHR mit einer Platte Ausfallsicherung im Verbund = 67,3TB
Belegt aktuell mit 35,6TB.
So und nun zu deinem eigentlichen Case:
- 8 HDDs im SHR(1), wäre mir persönlich zu riskant, bis 5/6 Hdds ok. Hintergrund der Ausfall einer weiteren HDD beim Rebuild!
- Aber egal, wollte es nur erwähnt haben
- Und dein Plan geht, ist aber sehr riskant, da du von einem degraded Raid sicherst
- Was ist dein Plan für die DS220j und die neue 24 TB nach dem Umzug, nur zum besseren Verständnis?

ok, wenn du bei den IDs 1, 7, und 195 keine Fehler hast, passen die HDDs!
 
Die DS220j geht danach sofort wieder weiter. Brauche ich nicht mehr danach. Ob ich dann die 24TB behalte kann ich noch nicht sagen, da ich sie eigentlich nicht brauche, evtl. werde ich diese durch 2 oder 3 der 8TB Platten austauschen um hier eine "Verjüngung" zu bekommen. Was würdest du empfehlen?

Ok, du hast noch die alte Systempartition, dann geht es nur über Backup und Restore. Das Backup würde ich in 2 Steps machen:
1. HB01 versioniert auf die DS220j mit der 24 TB HDD, alle wichtigen Ordner (vorher anhand der freigegebenen Odrner kummulieren, welche du alle in einem Rutsch sichern kannst)
2. RS1221+ degraden durch Entnahme einer HDD und diese als neuen Speicherpool in der DS220j einsetzen
3. HB02 die restlichen Ordner auf das neue Volume in der DS220j sichern
4. RS1221+ auf Werkseinstellungen zurücksetzen und DSM neu installieren, HB installieren, rücksichern und beten.

Edit: Ein Backup hast du nicht oder? Und wieso hast du 70 TB Speicher, wenn du 35 TB nutzt. Ich hätte den freien Speicher lieber in ein Backup investiert!

Die beiden HyperBackups unbedingt stichprobenartig testen. Und vielleicht den neuen Speicherpool als SHR-2 aufsetzen, wie @ctrlaltdelete auch schon angesprochen hat.
 
Ergänzend: Ich würde unbedingt die Volume-Verschlüsselung aufsetzen - das geht nur ganz am Anfang.

Vorteil: Man muss sich beim Austausch von Festplatten keinen Kopf mehr machen, weil nichts darauf im Klartext gespeichert wurde.
 
Also, dann versuche ich mal zu rekapitulieren.
- Platten passen soweit.
- Meine Umsetzung könnte funktionieren ist aber sehr risikoreich.

Ok. Danke bis dahin. Aber die zentrale Frage die ich mir stelle. Bin ich der erste Mensch mit einer Synology der vor diesem Problem steht. Kaufen wirklich alle anderen ein noch leistungsfähigeres System mit neuen Platten für mehrere Tausend EURO. Das kann doch nicht der einzige Weg sein. Ich versuche hier mit einer minimal-invasiven Lösung das Problem zu lösen und diese Vorgehensweise gilt nun als höchst Risikobehaftet (beten und hoffen). Das bin ich bis dato von Synology nicht gewohnt gewesen (wobei sie mich mit dem Abschalten der Video Station schon sehr enttäuscht haben).
