Q: why not?
212j is my private, oldest DS, runs this way since 2012, no problem with that, it is just fun device here where I did learn the first steps with syno long time ago.
It works, that is all

the slim devices are not my in fact, they are connected to other devices in some experimental network and for some compatibility they have to be 6.2 otherwise it will not work. There are some DS211 and RS812 and one DS216 and what ever involved and works.

Ich denke die DS625 kommt nicht, ich befürchte eher, dass der Privatkundenmarkt in einem Jahr Geschichte ist.

After Synology mentioned there's a DS625slim coming they renamed it to a FS something (like FS240). So it will be a FlashStation instead of a DiskStation.

But I don't believe that somebody will pay thousands of Euro/Dollars for Synology SSDs only to power a six year old budget CPU.

The good news is that even with '25 plus models you can use 3rd party 2.5 inch SATA SSDs. So people can get 6 year old budget SSDs to go with the 6 year old budget CPU

That's good news. I somehow missed that.
All 3rd party drives or is there a compatibility list?

DSM just accepts setting up the NAS with 3rd party SSDs, though there are "unverified drive" warnings. But syno_hdd_db can get rid of them.

You cannot use 3rd party SATA SSDs as a cache... but with a slim or flashstation you'd be using all SSDs so no need for a cache.

Wobei die Value und j Modelle ja auch wieder lustlos weiterentwickelt werden. Auf der deutschen Synology Produktseite werden 3 Value Modelle und mit der 223j ein einziges j Modell gelistet.

Die Beestation Pro ist deutlich leistungsfähiger als die Value Modelle.

Ich vermute eher die Privatkunden sollen komplett zur Beestation gedrängt werden.

Aktuelle Diskstation-Plus-NAS von Synology nehmen wieder alle HDDs und SATA-SSDs (2,5 Zoll) auf. Vorherige Einschränkungen entfallen.

That Heise article incorrectly says "Synology is softening the restrictions for drives in its Diskstation network-attached storage (NAS) of the current Plus series. With the update to DSM 7.3, SATA SSDs in 2.5-inch format are no longer restricted to Synology models. Users can once again use any SATA SSDs and thus create storage pools without any detours."

DSM 7.2.2 for x25 plus models had no restrictions on creating storage pools on unverified 2.5 inch SATA SSDs (unless you count annoying warnings as a restriction). The restriction was that you could not create a cache.
