Connect the UPS to the NAS' USB type A port. The DS725+ has a USB type A port on the front. All other '25+ series models have 2 or 3 USB type A ports (1 on the front and the others on the back).- DaveR

Yes, the Marvell 88SM9705 does support NCQ (Native Command Queuing) so setting NCQ to off (1) probably won't help.- DaveR

@ChaosEmpire Your issue could be because the DX517's Silicon Image SiI3826 port multiplier chip does not support native command queuing. So when DSM sends a queue of up to 31 read commands for each drive in the DX517 the drives only get the first command, so DSM assumes there's an issue with...- DaveR

Yes. It feels like Synology has lost some of their market share to UGREEN causing Synology to cut costs. They probably believe they can reduce the number of support staff by forcing people to use Synology drives in the expectation that this will reduce the load on the remaining support staff. -

2025 models
Since April Synology have being saying "We are currently in discussions with manufacturers to ensure that third-party hard drives will be officially supported again in the future". But WD aren't interested in playing Synology's games. I suspect Seagate and Toshiba would have more bargaining... -

Since you have backed up the data that's on that drive you can shut down the NAS and replace the drive. When you boot the NAS it will complain about a missing storage pool. Just open storage manager and delete the missing storage pool, then create a new storage pool and volume on the replacement... -

In 2022 Asustor (and Terramaster) got hit by the same Deadbolt ransomware that also targeted QNAP. https://www.asustor.com/en/security/security_advisory_detail?id=3 Asustor started taking security serious after that. -

Asustor do something similar... except the tar file is password protected so users can't see what they are sending to Asustor Support. They claim it only contains system logs, kernel messages and basic configuration files. -
