Sneaky Synology trying to install AI Console

I had 28 packages that were out of date on my DS720+ so after Updating all the community packages I thought I'll just click "Update All" and package center will update all the Synology packages without asking me annoying "are you sure" questions for each one. I came back 10 minutes later expecting them all to have been updated only to see a message asking did I want to install Synology AI Console on volume 1 ?!?! I never had AI Console installed and was only wanting to update existing packages. Why is Synology trying to get people to install AI Console.

The list of packages it said it was going to install did include Synology AI Console but because there so many packages in the list I didn't read it. Now that there's only 7 packages left to update the "Install Synology AI Console" is now obvious.


After clicking Update on each of the remaining 6 applications I discovered that it is Synology Office that seems to depend on Synology AI Console.

When I updated Synology Drive Server the currently installed Synology Office changed to "Repair" saying it was now incompatible with the new version of Driver Server. My solution was to uninstall Office

Compatibility and Installation

1. Synology Office 3.7 Official requires Synology AI Console 1.1 Official and above.
2. Using the Spreadsheet API in Synology Office 3.7 requires spreadsheet-api 3.4.0 or later.

Naja, muss ja eigentlich auch ohne AI Quatsch laufen.
Auf meiner DS223 gibts kein "AI" Zeug, und wird auch bei Office nicht mitinstalliert.






@DaveR ist bestimmt schon am rausfinden wie man das auch auf den "Höherpreisigen" Modellen umgehen kann

Evtl. reichts das AI Paket über die Konsole wieder zu deinstallieren.

It's easy to remove Office's dependency on AI Console that insists that it is installed.

1. Install Office and AI Console.
2. Edit /var/packages/Spreadsheet/INFO to remove AIConsole from install_dep_packages.
3. Uninstall AI Console.

But I suspect some features in Office would then be broken.

Up until 2 weeks ago my DS720+ had been sitting in a box since I move house last April. It still had Office installed from when I was testing my syno app mover script.

Ist auch nur für die Plus-Modelle o.ä. verfügbar

Solange man die Konsole nicht mit einem LLM "bestückt" hast auch keine KI auf deiner Syno. Von daher bin ich da beruhigt.

@DaveR Hi there, so wie ich es verstehe ist die Synology AI Konsole nur ein AI Hub. Das heißt so lange ich dort keine AI-Dienste einbinde, hängt die einfach nur dumm herum und tut nichts.

Oder hast du andere Erkenntnisse ?

As I understand AI console it is a hub only, that does nothing unless you connect it to AI services. Or do you have other information?

Thanks @Synchrotron It does seem harmless as long as you don't setup any AI services in it.

Ja, das entspricht auch meinem Kenntnisstand. Daher sehe ich kein Problem, wenn das Paket als leere „Shell“ mit installiert wird.

Yes, I agree. That’s why I don’t care when it is installed as a dependency.
