Ich gehe da mit Marius mit, dass bald ein neueres DSM mit jüngerem Kernel erscheinen wird.
Dafür spricht auch, dass die xx19er Modellreihe mit DSM 7.3 ihr letztes größeres Update erfahren hat und damit u.a. die letzten NAS mit Intel Atom C3538 für zukünftige größere DSM-Versionen entfernt werden können (außer RS820+ bzw. RS820RP+).

Sollte der Kernel mit einem DSM-Update grundlegend erneuert werden, wäre das ein Novum. Wünschenswert wäre es.
Grundlegend freue ich mich immer über Updates und Neuerungen – außer beim DSM, wo ich inzwischen davon geheilt wurde. Ich glaube nicht, dass sich die grundlegende Produktpolitik verändern wird - leider …

Synology muss und wird sich bewegen, sowohl bei Kernel als auch bei der Hardware.
Der Druck und auch die Firmen, die NAS herstellen, steigt monatlich spürbar an.

Ich kann mir auch vorstellen, dass Synology DSM auf aktuellen Stand bringt und es für Fremdhardware gegen Lizenzgebühr freigibt.

Previously Synology only used newer kernels on models with CPU architectures that Synology hadn't used before. Though they do sometimes make up their own new CPU architectures by adding nk (for new kernel) to the end of the CPU arch (like v1000nk).

Historically, as far as I know, Synology have never provided a newer kernel version via a DSM update for existing models. But I hope DSM 8 gives all supported models a newer kernel.

Marius is not respected much on reddit. He copies other people's work and posts it as his own with annoying banners and text begging for donations. he got banned from the main synology reddit because he kept spamming. He then went and created his own SynolgyNAS reddit.

And some of what he says is incorrect.

Well, with the release of DSM 7.3 in October, Synology listened to our feedback and walked it back completely for consumer-grade Plus, Value, and J series devices.

Now you can once again use any compatible third-party 3.5-inch HDDs or 2.5-inch SATA SSDs like the trusty Seagate IronWolf or WD Red without those annoying warnings, restrictions on storage pool creation, or “unverified” messages. It’s a full return to the flexibility we knew and loved! Of course, enterprise models still have stricter rules, and M.2 NVMe remains limited to the compatibility list, but for most of us home and prosumer users, this feels like a huge victory already.

2. It's not just enterprise models that still require M.2 NVMe drives be on the compatibility list.

He is also wondering is DSM 8 beta might be released soon. Back in May Synology insiders said that DSM 8 would available by the end of this year. If Synology hadn't annoyed all their customers and needed to release DSM 7.3 to stop losing sales they would have released DSM 8 by now.

I also heard that DSM 8 was going to be worse than the recent drive restrictions. I took that to mean that the '25+ restrictions were planned to be applied to all NAS models in DSM 8.

Personally I see the rapid releases of DSM 7.3.1, 7.3.1 Update 1 and 7.3.2 as a sign that Synology rushed the release of DSM 7.3 without proper beta testing... and left it for customers to find and report all the bugs.
