Synology über die Zukunft des Video-Streaming

Es gibt einen neuen Blog-Eintrag auf blog.synology.com und dieses mal macht der Mitarbeiter ein großes Fass auf:

We don’t plan to stop here. To achieve watching the videos on DiskStation anywhere, with any device, we are expanding our horizon to look for even better solutions. What would happen if the quality of your video file is too high and it is less likely to watch your movie collection via the Internet, since the bandwidth (taking 2Mbps upload for example) is too low compared to the bit rate of 720p HD video (approximately 4Mbps), let alone Full HD 1080p. We think it is a good idea to transcode the video beforehand to make the streaming lag-free.
What’s more, we are also interested in things like storing recorded TV series, broadcasting TV channels at home, and thus your DiskStation will become a media hub. We hope someday all multimedia content will become easier to access and share than ever.

Mich würde interessieren was ihr davon haltet, auch bzgl. Umsetzbarkeit.

PS. ich habe eine Pogoplug (ohne Video-Zusatz) als Webserver mit USB-Stick im Einsatz *gg* - hatte ja schon davon berichtet.

Also denkst du Synology zieht da in Richtung Hardware? Das würde mich wundern, sieht man von einem Gerät zum Einführen des TV-Signals ab, denn Synology hat bisher ein gutes Händchen bewiesen und lieber andere Hersteller ins Boot geholt als selber zu spezialisierte Hardware zu verwenden. Ich denke dahinter steht der lange Produktsupport und der ist eben nur möglich wenn die Hardware zumindest ähnlich funktioniert und aufgebaut ist.

Ich denke da eher an eine Prozessorlinie, die im Chip bereits die Video-Codexe kann, wo man aber das TV-Signal nicht herausführt, sonder nur für die Echtzeittranskodierung verwendet

...entsprechende leistungsfähigere CPUs sollten doch auch schon so ein endgerätekonformes "transcodierendes" NAS hinbekommen. Ein Beispiel führt z.B. tversity hier an.

Ich denke auch eher das die Transkodierung mit einem Extra-Chip von statten geht. Nur welche soll das sein? Mir ist nichts bekannt.
Mit der TV-Aufnahme, denke ich auch das es Zusatzhardware sein wird.
Oder kommt eine Multimedia DS? Würde, aber nur Synologys Produktpalette weiter fragmentieren.
