I have a iMac 27 24GB mem 3 TB Fusion and a second screen via Thunderbolt/minidisplay
For the Internet I use a Huawei linked with Airport Time Capsule to get ac Standard and a 5 GHz network
We have another iMac 27 in the household, 3 ipads and Iphones

I have 2 TB music, 2-3 TB fotos&films, 500 GB other files (most of the films are mp4, avi)
I do stream to 2 Apple TV and 1 Denon X3000 (airply)

I want to link into my files also via Internet from other locations.
I use network printers (WLAN)

My questions:
1) Synology 214play or 214+, I would put in 2x4 TB Raid 0 and would make backups on external 4TB hd
2) Should I connect the Synology to the Airport Time Capsule, as well as the basic router and network printer
3) Can I still use Time machine on the Time Capsule
4) Can I keep the music/films files on Synology for itunes

Hello,

I have a similar setup in mind for my own system. I do not posess a NAS yet so the following is not based on my own experiences but rather on what I have red on the internet.

1) In my opinion it really comes down to 214play or 214 plus. If you go fot Raid 0 that means you have 8TB of disc space which sounds reasonable considering the fact you already have about 5TB of data. How do you plan to do backups on the 4TB external harddrive? Wouldn't you need at least 8TB (or even more for incremental backups)? Unless of course you would do backups manually and only backup selected data.
2) Printers can be connected but what would be the benfit? Seems to me you already can access them with all your devices.
3) I don't see anything against that other than the above mentioned disc space. What do you want to backup on the time machine capsule? You could still use it to backup your iMacs.
4) Yes you can. You just have to transfer your itunes library to the NAS. There should be several tutorials available on that topic. I am however not sure if you could access said library from two computerrs at once.
