Why do I have to enter IP when using the gratisdns.dk

I belived that this module's purpose was to tell gratisdns (or other DNS server) which IP is the current one to if it change it will be told automatically to a DNS server. Or have I missed something here ?

thanks !
Henrik J. Koch

You don't have to enter a ip, leave the field blank and DDNS updater use your current ip. This is the preferred variant, so that DDNS updater detects a IP change and can perform a upgrade.

Thx.

Thank you - I see :-)

By the way - how can I see that the gratisdns.dk server accepts this URL call - and I'm okay ?

Nothing is being shown as a "OK" it's working.

By the way QTip. Nice initiative - wonderfull idea this app.

What response is in the field 'last status' and which icon color is shown in the first field?

Can you show me the log entry for this, pls remove credentials if any.

Could you create a debug.log?

How-To generate a debug.log:

  • stop DDNS updater, time for the last update attempt should be min. 15 min
  • open DDNS updater in a new window - right-click on the icon in the menu or from the desktop of DSM and select "Open in New Window"
  • append ?debug=1 behind the url in the browser and then call the url
  • after a short time a download dialog appears, save the file (popup blocker could prevent this)
  • pack the file with a packer again and protect it with a password
  • upload the file here, possibly rename the ending in .txt
  • tell me the password via PM

Hi QTip. Did you get the file and are you able to read it?
// Henrik

Yes, but I can analyze it it first this evening.

@HKOCH are you sure that "wildcards" = "on" is the right konfiguration?
the most DYN Service i know dont support wildcards.

2 notes:

  • gratisdns.dk can only used with ssl connections, therefore you must install ipkg and the ipkg packages perl + perl-IO-Socket-SSL the Synology Perl package don't provide this. After installation of the missing files you must select "use ssl" in the options dialog
  • you must put the full host.domain.com in the field hostname, DDNS updater split this in the relevant parts
Please try again after you have completed the above steps, a look at the log is usefull to see what happens.

  • Since the update to DSM 5.0, I have been unable to get DDNS Updater to use IPKG Perl at all, so I can't use SSL. It worked fine in 4.x. If I don't install Synology Perl, DDNS Updater won't work at all.

Is the problem the installation of ipkg? I use a DS214play with DSM 5 and ipkg + perl + ssl, all running fine.

I'm not sure if ipkg is the problem. I can run perl from the shell and it picks the ipkg one, but ddns seems not to want to use it. I was originally on 4.x, installed the 5.0 beta, then the 5.0 release. When I moved to 5.0 beta, ddns quit working. Since it was all beta, I let it go until 5.0 final was released. I have since ripped out ipkg, perl, ssl and so forth and re-installed everything starting with the bootstrapper with no difference. The only thing I have not done was wipe the NAS and start over (for obvious reasons).

If I launch ddns, I just get a blank screen with a tool window (I can post a screen shot). If I then install Synology perl, ddns comes up, but obviously has no SSL support.

Also, I am very slowly learning German from reading synology-forum.de. Thanks for putting up with my English in the meantime. ;)
