    Are you sure you bought a SATA HDD and not a SAS HDD? Though according the Seagate's spec sheet the ST22000NM001E is a SATA HDD. It is possible for new HDDs to arrive dead.

    The poor little DS216J only has 512 MB of DDR3 memory. And it's also running 2 cameras. Maybe if you moved Surveillance Station to the DS923+ or DS723+ you'd then be able to run to 2 simultaneous backups to the DS216j.

    Connect the UPS to the NAS' USB type A port. The DS725+ has a USB type A port on the front. All other '25+ series models have 2 or 3 USB type A ports (1 on the front and the others on the back).

    Yes, the Marvell 88SM9705 does support NCQ (Native Command Queuing) so setting NCQ to off (1) probably won't help.

    Yes. It feels like Synology has lost some of their market share to UGREEN causing Synology to cut costs. They probably believe they can reduce the number of support staff by forcing people to use Synology drives in the expectation that this will reduce the load on the remaining support staff.
