DDNS Updater gray page, no GUI

I am using DSM 5.0 and I followed the advice to install the beta init 3rd party 1.7 and DDNS 1.27-001. I also installed Perl and perl ssl. When I ope nthe DDNS updater app, I get a gray window. I tried clearing my cache, restarting my browser, using a different browser, reinstalling the apps and rebooting the NAS, with no change. I am using a DSM413. Your help is appreciated.

First of all you should update DSM and Init 3rdparty to the latest versions - this is DSM-5.0 4458 Update 2, Init 3rdparty 1.7-002.
After that maybe you should test the attached DDNS updater 1.27 (which was the latest version before the current 1.27-001)? If this one works you can try an update to the 1.27-001.

hello, i should have been more specific. I am already running dsm 5.0 4458 update 2 and init 3rdparty 1.7-002. I manually installed ddnsupdater 1.2.7 that you attached above and it worked! thank you for your help.

Synology updated Perl (5.18.1-0012) and now DDNS Updater will not start. Instead of a gray page, it shows "loading". I tried a restart of the system, re-install of DDNS Updater 1.27 and also upgrade to 1.27-001 (still gray page) with no changes. Anything I can do to troubleshoot?

Synology aktualisiert Perl (5.18.1-0012) und jetzt DDNS-Updater startet nicht. Statt einer grauen Seite zeigt es "loading". Ich habe versucht, einen Neustart des Systems, Re-Installation von DDNS Updater 1.27 und auch ein Upgrade auf 1,27 bis 001 (Seite noch grau) ohne Änderungen. install Google Chrome
open DSM page and login
press CTRL + SHIFT + J, a console on the bottom of Chrome will open
select the button "console" in the top button bar of this console if not selected
clear the console with the "STOP" sign on the left side under the button bar
start DDNS updater and look for errors in the console (written in red), if any post this here

this morning I logged in again and it works fine. I'm not sure what was stopping it before but it appears to be fixed. If it has a problem again I'll use google chrome to troubleshoot.

I'm having the same problem with the DDNS Updater GUI showing a blank grey page. I captured the Console log as you suggested, posted below:

Hi,

have you cleared your browser cache, have you manually edited the ddclient.conf, is Init_3rdparty running correct?

otherwise one or more files could have the wrong permissions, i need additional informations.
Please login via telnet or ssh with user root and password from admin and provide me the output of the following commands:

• /bin/ls -lAghL /var/packages/ddnsupdater/target
• /bin/ls -lAghL /var/packages/ddnsupdater/target/include
• /bin/ls -lAgh /tmp/cache/ddclient

Post the results here separated with

 tags (toolbar symbol #).

I resolved the issue by uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting, and reconfiguring. Before doing so I noticed that the package service was stopped and would not restart. I imagine that accounts for the console errors. Perhaps this occurred during a DSM update. If it happens again I will follow the procedure above. Thanks!

I'm having the same symptoms as described above. I'm having a DS214 running DSM 5.0-4528 Update 1.

I followed the steps, and installed the Perl package from the Synology Package Center. I then installed Init_3rdparty ver. 1.7-002 and ddnsupdater ver. 1.27-002. I mistakenly tried to run the ddnsupdater from Safari. When I do so, I only see the raw PHP code. So, I continued searching for answers and found a page describing that I needed "ddclient" and "perl-io-socket-ssl" (link) installed, and for that I would need IPKG installed (link). But, nothing helped - Safari wouldn't show the DDNS updater.

Finally, I found one of your posts stating "use Google Chrome", and so I did. Now, I have the issue that I get a "grey screen", my DDNS updater will not go into "running" mode, and despite DDNS updater won't run, I tried to open the Synology "Main Menu", and that's where getting "grey screen". I have tried re-installing both Init_3rdparty and DDNS updater.

Opening the Chrome Developer Console tells me:

"Unexpected token" -> ddnsupdater.php:135
"dmsversion is not defined" -> ddnsupdater.js:24

Thats not a result of using Safari, check if Init_3rdparty ver. 1.7-002 runs properly and clean browser cache. If all correct and even no gui, try to restart your diskstation.

ddclient are part of DDNS updater, you don't need it separately, pls remove the ipkg ddclient to prevent side effects. perl-io-socket-ssl are only neccessary, if you want to use ssl connections to your ddns provider, but then perl must also be installed via ipkg. The primary task is that DDNS updater shows his gui.

Finally, I found one of your posts stating "use Google Chrome", and so I did. "use Google Chrome" is required only in the context of debugging, you don't need it to run DDNS updater. All modern Browser could display the DDNS updater gui, if no other problems e.g. Init_3rdparty occur.

It looks simular to millerim's error, at first pls remove ipkg ddclient and fix/do the other things i wrote above.

I had already removed the ddclient, but after reading your post I uninstalled Init_3rdparty and ddns_updater. Then I checked if everything was gone, and realised my system had two instances of Perl installed. One working and one not working, and it was the latter that was recognized as "Perl". I uninstalled the one from the Synology Package Center GUI and the other manually. Then checked whether my system was clean, and re-installed the necessary apps step by step. I needed to reboot after installing Init_3rdparty, but I'm able to but run ddns-updater and see the GUI.

Just for the record.

I need SSL because I'm using GratisDNS.dk. Thus, "perl-io-socket-ssl" is obligatory for me. The is an issue is because I cannot use this SSL together with the Synology Perl. And the IPKG Perl doesn't work with my DS214 DSM 5.xxx. So, I'll need to look for a work-around.
